лещина вирджинская Hamamelis virginiana (лат.); кустарник или небольшое дерево, распространенные в восточных и южных штатах, на Среднем Западе Midwest и в Канаде. Произрастает на влажной почве у водоемов. На Юге может достигать высоты 9 м. Листья матового зеленого цвета с зубчатыми краями длиной до 15 см и шириной до 8 см. Цветет в октябре-ноябре, на месте опавших листьев появляются желтые цветы. Название (букв. "ведьмин орешник") связано с тем, что соку, выделяемому листьями и стволом растения, приписывались целительные свойства: содержащая спирт жидкость использовалась как примочка против воспаления и раздражения кожи.
